Paraphrase

Letter addressed to “the lofty pinnacle, the precious jewel lotus feet of the dear powerful lord

of the vast physical realm, the great lord of men, the Dharmaraja”, the King of Lo. The writer

is one Padma rab bzang (Padma Ra gsang).

The letter is apparently a draft copy of a missive sent by Baragaon to the King of Lo.

Baragaon has heard that a resolution has been passed in Lo whereby the custom of exchanging

salt from the north with grain from the south has been brought to an end. Henceforth,

Baragaon—that which is “on the near side of the Nyeshang Pass, above the Pantag River, and

below Zangboche” (on the southern boundary of Gelung)—must pay for salt in cash at a rate

of 1  am per pathi. The writer asks for a verification or denial of the rumour of an “insane document”

(myon ba’i rgan brgya for smyon pa’i gan rgya) promulgating this new regulation
